24 Hour Spin Update - Thanks!
Hope you all had a great weekend. The weather was amazing...made me really look forward to the upcoming Gears Girls season! I spent the weekend at the Toronto Bike Show helping out at the Gears booth. I saw a lot of members - so great to see everyone - and I met a ton of potential new members. Spending the weekend talking about bikes - and to women just getting into cycling (or back into cycling) - made me so excited for what's to come this summer!
I also got to participate in my first 24 Hour Spin this weekend. What a cool event! I was on the Gears Girls bike from 9:30pm until midnight. The music and energy was great - the time really flew by. Special thanks go out to Rosemarie Wallace for organizing the Gears Girls bike and for taking care of all the scheduling details. Thanks also go out to Kevin and Ira - co-owners of Gears - for sponsoring the Gears Girls bike. Thanks so much to all three of you...and of course to all the women that participated in the event as part of the Gears Girls team.
Some cool upcoming things to think about:
1) A Gears Girls meet and greet for all current, new or potential members - I'm hoping this will happen mid-April. More details to come soon!
2) A Women's Learn to Race/Ride Skills Camp taking place the weekend of April 24th and 25th, being hosted by the women's team I'm racing with this summer - The Eat Clean Diet Women's Cycling Team. Details aren't yet finalized, but there is some interim information here: http://www.womenscyclingteam.com/. If you're interested, mark down the dates and check back often to the site.
3) Gears Girls casual clothing! I'm hoping to have Gears Girls "apres cycling wear" ready for the season. Hoodies, technical shirts (long sleeve and short sleeve), and possibly jackets. All with Gears Girls inspired logos! My plan is to have samples ready for the April meet and greet. Again, more details to come soon.
Drop me a line if you have any questions or suggestions about Gears Girls. Hopefully, with the good weather fast approaching, you'll all be getting out on the road soon!Ciao for now!

Information about Gears Girls 2010 Season!
The Gears Girls season will "officially" begin the last weekend of May, but unofficially, depending on group interest and leader availability, the season may begin earlier. We are still looking for more ride leaders! If you, or someone you know, is interested in helping out on Saturday rides - even if it's just for one Saturday during the summer - please drop us a line at gearsgirls@hotmail.com. Men are more than welcome to help out with rides - in fact, there will be some great husband/wife duos helping out this year! Ride leaders should be comfortable either leading a group or acting as sweep - they should also be able to navigate the route using a map or GPS. All of the routes we'll be riding will be well-known to most folks that ride regularly with Gears and other affiliated groups so no need to worry about getting lost! Those that express interest (or who have already expressed interest) in helping out will receive an email in late March/early April asking for your preferences and availability for the season.
Over the coming months I will start forwarding information about ride schedules and group events. If you have any requests for specific Saturday ride destination please let me know; we're open to suggestions. New this season, we'll start many of our Saturday rides at locations other than Gears Bike Shop. Wednesday night rides will still start and end at Gears, but Saturdays will begin and end at a variety of locations - all in areas with low traffic and interesting terrain and views. And of course there will be stops along the way for things like buttertarts and coffee!
Also new this year is our affiliation with the Oakville Cycling Club (OCC). More specific information can be found in the attached forms, but in a nut shell, Gears Girls members will have the opportunity, for an additional $25, to join the OCC and ride with them in addition to Gears Girls. The OCC offers great touring pace rides (and brisk pace rides for you very speedy GG members) on Tuesdays and Sundays. The OCC's touring distances and pace options will suit Gears Girls members well. Plus they're a really nice bunch of folks so the affiliation will be a great addition to the season. Check out their website for more information: http://www.oakvillecc.com/
Drop us a line at gearsgirls@hotmail.com if you have any questions about Gears Girls or if you would like to receive additional information about the club or a membership application. Membership forms will also be available at Gears as of Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Alternately, check out the Gears Bike Shop website at http://www.gearsbikeshop.com/ and click on the "Group Ride" link located on the left hand side of the page. Once you're at the Group Ride page, scroll down to the Gears Girls section - there you'll find a link to additional information and the 2010 membership forms.
Looking forward to the upcoming season, meeting new friends, and exploring new routes!
Hope to ride with you soon.

Gears Girls 2010 - Ride Leaders Wanted!
Seasons Greetings and Happy, healthy New Year to all of you!
We're in the process of planning for the 2010 Gears Girls season - I'll have some updates for you in the new year regarding ride days, membership fees, etc. In the interim, if any of you - members or non-members - men or women - are interested in helping lead Saturday rides please let me know.
If you, or someone you know may be interested in helping out, please email gearsgirls@hotmail.com. Leaders should be comfortable riding a minimum of 60km, be able to read a map and ride comfortably at the front or back of a group. Remember, this is a recreational ride, so you don't have to be fast to lead the group! We'll provide an orientation session for those interested in helping out. More info about being a ride leader will be sent out in the new year; I'm just trying to get a sense of how many people would be willing to help out with Gears Girls.
Merry Christmas and happy Chanukah everyone! Hopefully there's a new bike under the tree for some of you :).
