Gears Girls Information Night, Membership Forms...and St. Patrick's Day!

Hi Everyone.

Just a reminder that the first of two Gears Girls information and membership nights will be this Wednesday, March 16th, 6:45pm at Gears Bike Shop. During the information session, we'll talk about the club, answer questions, talk about clinics that Gears will be offering over the course of the season, etc. You can also pay for your 2011 Gears Girls membership and purchase club clothing (limited availability, buy it while you can!). Returning members are also encouraged to attend as many changes have been made to the club since last year.

Also of interest...this Sunday, March 13th is the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. Check out the route: http://www.topatrick.com/parade-map.html. Gears Bike Shop is looking for cyclists interested in riding in the parade to help promote the shop - and to spread the word that Gears is opening a second awesome location in Toronto! The parade starts at 12pm sharp. The meeting time will be around 10:30am. Here are some details for participants: http://www.topatrick.com/participating/18-parade-day-participant-info.html. Any type of bike is welcome. Of course green clothing and helmets are preferred but not required! The parade won't move quickly so it will be a slow, leisurely ride. Great people watching...and when else do you get a chance to ride your bike down the middle of Bloor Street and Yonge Street? If you're interested in participating, please let me know as soon as possible. Having a contingent of Gears Girls in the St. Patrick's Day Parade would be amazing!

If you have any questions re the above information don't hesitate to drop me an email. 2011 Gears Girls Membership Forms are now available. Drop me a line at gearsgirls@hotmail.com if you would like me to email them to you.

The ride season is getting closer day by day!

Big changes for the 2011 Gears Girls Season!

With the 2011 Gears Girls season fast approaching (first ride of the GG season is only 9 weeks away!), I thought I would let everyone know that we're making big changes to Gears Girls this season! The club will still be awesome of course - no changes there - but new this season will be the introduction of several different ride options that will appeal to almost all female road cyclists! Check out the blog for details: http://gearsgirls.blogspot.com or come to our March 16th or April 13th information/membership night (see the blog for times and locations).

I'll be at the Gears booth at the
Toronto Bike Show from March 4th through to the 6th. If you're at the show be sure to drop by, check out the booth...and of course come say hi to me and ask me any questions you may have about Gears Girls 2011!

Can't wait to get back out on the road with everyone!

Hope to see you at the Bike Show this weekend.

Gears Girls - Thanks for a great season!

Thanks to everyone for making this Gears Girls season such a success! I'm so proud of the group and how far everyone has come. In just two years we've become a strong women's road group - we ride well together, we're safe, we have fun...and of course we look great out there on the road. Next year will be even bigger and better!

Lots of great winter training options: Gears offers spin classes 7 days of the week. Buy a trainer or rollers. Run. Swim. Ride your mountain bike in the snow! Before long it will be April 1st and we'll be back out on the road and starting the 2011 Gears Girls season.

Feel free to forward your feedback or comments to me. Also, if you have any questions about cold weather riding or winter training options, I'm more than happy to help with suggestions.

I'm already excited about next year!

Ride with you soon....

Sunday Gears Girls ride - Information

Hi Girls.

First off...as many of you already know, tonight's ride (Wednesday) is cancelled. Seems like everyone and their dog is either working or busy so no one is available to ride tonight.   Weather is iffy and not much evening light left (we only got a 30km ride in last night) - so not the end of the world :(

For Sunday (September 26th):

We'll be riding from River Oak Community Centre at 9am Sunday morning. The community centre is located in Oakville on Sixth Line, just south of Dundas: http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=2400+Sixth+Line%0D%0AOakville,+ON%0D%0AL6H+3N8&oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=2400+6+Line,+Oakville,+Halton+Regional+Municipality,+Ontario+L6H+6J9&gl=ca&ei=3k6aTOPNGYvAsAPjoo3HBA&ved=0CBUQ8gEwAA&z=16

Park on the south side of the building.

The ride will be between about 85kms and 95kms - depending on group interest and time. We'll be riding to Moffat so be sure to bring money for buttertarts and a cold drink.

Drop me a quick line to let me know if you'll be there Sunday!
